Scenes from the homestead.
It’s hard to see in this picture but the chickens and piggy have their own fenced in yard now! ππ·πΏπ
More porch progress, it’s all finished except screening in the walls. That will be tomorrow. Time to relax!
New addition to our flock, 5 black Australorp hens. We already got an egg from them today! They are very sweet and gentle.
The porch deck is finished!! We need to add steps, railing and the roof. Tiny house living isn’t always easy and any additional space is precious. The porch will be screened in and we are going to put a daybed (or something similar) so we can sleep out on the porch on warm nights. It’s also going to be a great spot to drink coffee in the morning!
Such beautiful weather these last few days!! Every morning the kids and I go down to the creek to grab water for the animals and the flowers.
Transplanted some herbs into our little washtub herb garden! We will be adding basil, fennel, dill, cilantro, parsley and chives once they sprout.
Jacob built a sifting box so we can take out the rocks from the garden area. Perfect activity for an almost 4 year old!!
Tiny house in the woods π‘
I am ready for Spring but this snow is pretty magical! ββ¨
Apparently Spring took a detour. We got a few inches of snow last night along with wind, rain, sleet & hail! Ready for this weather to settle down so we can enjoy the outdoors again!
Exciting news on the homestead, our first eggs!! We’ve had our chickens since they were tiny and have waited 6 long months for eggs, so we were so happy about this little discovery in the coop today! Once the weather evens out we will be adding baby chicks and more egg laying hens to our flock.
A few days ago Jacob cut a new path from the tiny house down to the creek. It was already a deer path so we just widened it. Itβs a nice spot where we are going to put a picnic table!
News!
Lots going on around here! We were sick in DC and spent a few days recuperating from a long trip + two sick kiddos. So posts have been slow since then. Anyway, on to the news! Jacob got a job working for the state and he starts training this week and has to leave for a month. Since jobs here are few and far between it is really good news!
More news! We are dismantling the treehouse and repurposing the wood into a larger 2 bedroom cabin which will be our permanent home. In the meantime we will be outfitting a tiny house/barn conversion! Since we werenβt expecting Jacob to leave for training we have to put the a-frame on hold and the tiny house made sense since we can finish it faster than starting a whole new house from scratch. It is built locally by Mennonites and scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. While it is tiny, itβs a whole lot more room than we have now and it has a loft! We are excited about this new project and will show the conversion process here with pics and video.
So, lots of changes, lots happening on the homestead. Thanks for reading!
Our neighbors right across the creek found an elk print on their land!
