This is my first attempt at carving a hatchet handle and I wanted to share the love! Thank you to all our loyal readers as well as our new ones!
The knife in the photo is the only tool I used to carve this handle. The Ash I used had some Ash Bores in it so there is a little scarring but it gives it character! The head is vintage steel that I reconditioned, sharpened, and painted blue to make it more visible on the forest floor.

When this post reaches 500 notes I”ll choose a reader at random to send the hatchet to!
Thanks and good luck!
My project for the day was clearing a little spot for the a-frame. We only need just enough for the house to squeeze in. We prefer to be surrounded with the over growth rather than mow it all down.
Top left is path to house plot
Top right is the side entrance to the yard
Bottom right is cleared area 30x30
Bottom left is view from front of plot
Consider this your official invite!
If you are interested in homesteading, living off grid and being sustainable come check us out. We are interested in having like minded people stay with us! Send a message and we can go from there. It would be cool to share this experience with other people. Bring a travel trailer, yurt or tent and stay the weekend or a few months! We think we could learn from other people and maybe teach a thing or two as well. It would be nice to gather around the campfire with some other people, talk, have a beer and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
